Scorecard System for Doctor Consortium

A user-friendly data analysis tool for a small hospital consortium of doctors saves time and improves results.

The Background

Although small, a hospital consortium of doctors strives to provide the best service possible to their patients, using patient statistics to determine the effectiveness of both their practice and their doctors.

The Challenge

The consortium wanted to find a way to analyze the performance of their doctors so that they could present the information in a compact report fit for the board of directors. While they had defined metrics and existing reports, their existing one-off reporting process was cumbersome and hard to use. They wanted a system that delivered:

  • Regularly updated metrics
  • A single push-button process for generating reports
  • Summary information on every physician in a compact, clean, and attention-grabbing way that would both impress and inform the board of directors

The Solution

In response to a constant client feedback cycle, Business Researchers recommended developing a user-friendly Scorecard System that would enable the client to update the information as needed and allow them to run reports at the push of a button.

Users see an easy-to-read Excel add-in, which provides a form that allows the selection of any number of report types and date ranges. With the push of a button, a polished spreadsheet is generated for each applicable report. This application consisted of two parts:

Backend—a WPS (SAS) backend that would read and process the doctor data
Frontend—an Excel frontend to manage the process and format the reports.

The Results

Business Researchers provided a meaningful and valuable data analysis tool to a small customer at a fraction of the cost of a traditional data warehouse.
