Benvenuti a La Piccola Scuola Italiana (LPSI)!
My name is Valentina Imbeni and I have the privilege of being the Director of this very special school and the mother of two LPSI students.
LPSI is an Italian Immersion, Reggio Emilia inspired program that strives to be a home away from home for your child.
At LPSI the child is the protagonist.
We believe that children are smart, competent and the protagonists of the learning process. We believe that children learn through play, meaningful experiences and exploration of the world around them. Play provides opportunities for exploration, experimentation, and manipulation that are essential for constructing knowledge and contributes to the development of representational thought.
We believe that children learn through social interaction with other adults and other children and through meaningful relationships with peers, teachers and most important you!
We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, nurtured and understood and our staff strives to meet the needs of the group as well as the needs on the individual child. The teacher's role is to support and facilitate development and learning.
Loris Malaguzzi, the father of the Reggio Emilia schools in Italy, said that children speak a hundred languages and a hundred hundred more…our goal is to make sure that your child gets to use and learn as many as she/he likes.
We will also offer your child the chance of being immersed in the Italian language and culture: at LPSI your child will eat a healthy/organic Italian meal cooked on site and will be in a warm and caring environment: we warn you that there will be hugs!
We also have a warm, lively and friendly community of parents: at LPSI you will know your fellow parents and you will probably make many friends! Our parents are a mix of Italian nationals, Italian-American, Italian speakers and lovers of Italy and Bilingual education. We believe that having a close connection between school and home promotes learning and enhances your child’s school experience.
